My name is Larry Cooney Jr. I am an illustrator / designer / musician from the United States. With the exception of attending college at Parsons in NYC, I am born, raised and will probably always live in New Jersey. I am currently a full-time employee at Havas Health & You in NYC in the role of Art Supervisor.
I taught myself how to incorrectly hold a pencil in order to start drawing at the age of 3. I have not stopped since and fun-fact, I still hold any pen or pencil incorrectly.
In 1996, I graduated with a BFA in Illustration from Parsons School of Design in NYC. I have tackled many different styles and approaches over the years, both traditional and digital. Working in all types of environments, including the largest of corporate businesses, I am able to adapt to any situation. I have currently refocused on doing illustration. Since doing so, I have had my illustrations featured by Adobe in their "Made with Illustrator Draw" gallery. I was also one of the artist's spotlighted in Adobe's "Behance Year in Review 2017."
My full illustration portfolio can be viewed here.
This site may seem light on public examples to you. It absolutely is and I acknowledge this fact. This is for 2 reasons. The first reason is due to the various NDA's and contracts I have signed over the years and the sensitivity of pharmaceutical work overall. I am very limited to the corporate work I can display publicly. I would be happy to share those examples in person.
The second reason is I unfortunately lost 98% of digital and traditional artwork thanks to Hurricane Irene in 2011. All of the work I had done prior was gone overnight. I was about to move into a new home and all of my artwork, computers and equipment were being stored in my parents basement. It was perhaps the worst case scenario for any artist. It did however reinforce the importance of backups. Ever since my backups have backups both on and off site. In all seriousness, I do my best to make light of an awful situation. It is no coincidence it was shortly after the flooding that I did have a career path deviation for almost 8 years and found myself in a more technology focused role.
My CV is available upon request but can also be downloaded here. Please feel free to follow me on Instagram @officialartificial as that is where I post my illustrations as they are completed.
